SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY (RMT)

Sports massage therapy focuses on improving and optimizing human movement patterns, whether to succeed in sport or day to day life. Your particular sport or activity, your goals, and the challenges you face will help determine which treatment strategies might best suit your needs. 

We usually see sports massage follow the different stages of training: 

  • Active training support
  • Rehab/recovery
  • Maintenance / optimization

If you are a competitive athlete, your active training is unique in that we need to be effective but also avoid the inflammations or aggravations that we come to expect to some degree with rehab and recovery treatments. These irritations could hinder your performance in the short term and so we mitigate these as much as possible. Our focus is to support your body’s natural recovery mechanisms, reducing the chances of injury and overtraining; allowing you to push the limits and reach your full potential during training so that you can reach your goals on game day (or race day.. or whatever day you’re headed towards).

During off training time, or for the rest of us non-competitors, our focus is on rehab and recovery and/or maintenance and optimization. This is where we work with new or existing injuries and imbalances and optimize your movement patterns through manual therapy and corrective exercise. Postural and mobility assessments give profound insights into how your body likes to move and we will then focus to re-educate any sub-optimal patterns. Helping you move better, feel better, and live better.
